Who? Toronto Debate Toastmasters Club – specialty Club open to all

What? Self-paced programme (you start when you choose) with all Toastmasters activities (2-track programme of communication & leadership) plus debate

When? 2nd & 4th Monday of the month, year-round ~ 5:45-8:00 pm

Where? The Faculty Club ~ University of Toronto

Why? Become a better communicator, leader and debater

How? Activities: debate, debate evaluation; speech, speech evaluation; Table Topics, etc. – at every meeting + speech marathons + Area, Division & District activities + social activities – serious, as well as fun and light-hearted, so some require preparation & some do not, to engage all present

Co$t? New members: $110/first 6 months; Dual/Renewing members: $65 for each additional 6-month period ~ payable in cash or by cheque or money order; no credit cards; Guests may attend a meeting FREE of charge but RSVP required

Club Mission: The mission of the Toronto Debate Toastmasters Club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication, leadership and debating skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.

What do I get for my membership fee when I join?

  • Enrolment into the Toastmasters programme
  • At our Club, speeches, evaluations and debates are recorded on disk for members

Resources: New member’s kit, including:

  • Competent Communication manual
  • Competent Leadership manual
  • 3 pamphlets with helpful hints on critical subjects:
    • Your Speaking Voice
    • Gestures: Your Body Speaks
    • Effective Evaluation
  • Monthly subscription to Toastmaster magazine

Access:

  • Access to all Toastmasters activities at Club, Area, Division & District levels (see reverse)
  • Access to more experienced Toastmasters in senior leadership roles, at Club, Area, Division and District levels, as well as visiting Toastmasters
  • Access to special guest speakers
  • Access to all Toastmasters printed materials on helpful topics
  • Access to Toastmasters website: www.toastmasters.org ~ members’ site

Transferability:

  • If you move, membership and achievement records are transferable to another Toastmasters Club anywhere in the world

Achievements:

  • Each time you achieve an award, Toastmasters International sends your award certificate to you
  • A letter of congratulations, explaining what your achievement means, is also sent; it may be sent to your employer or to you
