What? Self-paced (you start when you choose) 2-track programme of communication and leadership plus debate

When? 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, year-round — 5:45–8:00 pm, as well as 5th Monday of the month, in any month with a 5th Monday (except December)

Where? U of T’s OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education), at 252 Bloor St., W., steps from the St. George TTC subway station

Why? Become a better communicator, leader and debater

How?  Activities:  debate, debate evaluation; speech, speech evaluation; impromptu speech exercises (including Table Topics); meeting role evaluation; etc. — at every meeting; all but evaluation are serious, as well as fun and light-hearted, so some require preparation and some do not, to engage all present + social activities

Co$t? Members new to TDT:  $135/first 6 months; members renewing with TDT: $90 for each additional 6-month period — payable in cash or by cheque or money order; no credit cards or debit cards please; guests may attend a meeting free of charge but RSVP required due to limited seating capacity

  • Competent Communication - learn best speech practices in a cumulative programme and work toward advanced communication manuals

  • Access to all Toastmasters printed and downloadable materials on helpful topics, as well as free online videos; 3 free mini-manuals:  Your Speaking Voice; Gestures:  Your Body Speaks; and Effective Evaluation
  • Project Management + :  Successful completion of the High Performance Leadership project leads to the Leadership Excellence award
  • Monthly subscription to Toastmaster magazine, full of helpful hints and advice, from writers around the world (e.g., Microsoft authors, etc.)
  • Access to workshops, seminars, special guest speakers, speech contests, special events, etc.
  • Next steps:  Upon completion of the Competent Communication manual and achievement of your “Competent Communicator” award, you receive 2 free Advanced Communicator manuals (from a library of 15 specialized manuals) in order to achieve your “Advanced Communicator Bronze” award; the program continues from there; upon completion of the Competent Leadership manual and achievement of your “Competent Leader” award, you move forward to advanced leadership projects, e.g., the High Performance Leadership project, and others
  • Your progress record is transferable to any Toastmasters club in the world (pending membership criteria; contact club first), should you have to move
